Wage & Hour Compliance Report Gaps In ELT Study

Wage and Hour compliace still plays a major factor in workplace violation.  While 60 percent of respondents in another ELT survey reported providing extensive harassment and discrimination training to their workforces, employers are surprised to learn that there are now more wage and hour class action lawsuits than class actions arising from all other forms of discrimination, combined. However, less than a quarter of respondents reported providing 00004000 any kind of wage and hour training to their employees.

R. Kelly Paid Employee Less Than Minimum Wage

A man who worked for R & B singer R. Kelly for more than two years claims he was paid approximately $4.50 an hour by the Chicago native, even during a period of time when he worked more than 100 hours in a week — a violation of federal and state minimum wage laws.

Minimum Wage Is Likely to Rise in 2010 in Some States

California Courts Allows Kitchen Staff to Participate In a Tip Pool

Contradicting California law which prohibits the following employees from partcipating in a mandatory tip pool program, i.e. ”employees who do not provide direct table service and who do not share in the tip pool include dishwashers, cooks, and chefs, except in restaurants where the chefs prepare the food at the patron’s table”.

Division of Labor Standard Enforment Opinion Letter re: Reducing Salary and Workdays

Colorado Minimum Wage Could Decline in 2010

Last week, the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics projected that Colorado’s cost of living dropped 0.6 percent from July 2008 to July 2009, which was attributed to declining fuel prices. Therefore, Colorado’s minimum wage of $7.28 an hour might drop in January, although it would not go below the federal minimum wage of $7.25 an hour.

Back Overtime Wages for Arkansas Wildlife Officers

Labor Department to Increase Inspection Force On Wage & Hour Claims

The staffing bump will include 150 new investigators for the Wage and Hour Division, the agency responsible for investigating employers who employ children, fail to pay proper wages, and violate other fair labor laws; 100 staffers to monitor contracts paid for by economic stimulus funds; and “75 staffers to conduct nearly 600 more criminal and civil investigations” at the Employee Benefits Security Administration, according to the Journal.

Colorado May Lower Minimum Wage
