Age Discrimination Legislation Important To Employers

Age Discrimination legislation will affect companies.  There were 24,582 age discrimination cases received by the EEOC (The Federal Equal Opportunity Employment Commission) in Fiscal year 2008. In that same year, 21,415 were resolved providing $82.8 in monetary benefits for charging parties and other aggrieved individuals (not including monetary benefits obtained through litigation).

Study Shows People With Foreign Names Face Discrimination

Your name could be the reason for your rejection.  Thousands of fake CVs were sent to companies across the country by researchers using three different identities to discover how job-seekers with different names were treated.

The three fake identities – Nazia Mahmood, Mariam Namagembe and Alison Taylor – were given similar experience and qualifications.

Age Discrimination Suit Filed against Ruby Tuesdays

The employment lawsuit was filed on Deptember 30, 2009 in Pennsylavania federal court.  The U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC) http://www.eeoc.gov/ filed a lawsuit against the American casual dining restaurant chain, Ruby Tuesday, for discriminating against job applicants who were 40-years-old or older.

What Is the Invisible discrimination In the Workplace: Older Workers

When it comes to employment, older people can experience discrimination that is unlawful under state and federal laws, and very little is said about it. “It’s not that you’re too old, it’s just that we’re looking for someone who’ll fit the team better,” is the common refrain.

Employers Be Aware – Age Bias Charges Surge As Firms Shed Workers

United States Supreme Court Rules on Pregnancy Discrimination Case

The United States Supreme Court recently overturned a Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals opinion when it ruled that an employer did not violate the Pregnancy Discrimination Act (“PDA”) when, prior to the PDA’s enactment, it gave less retirement credit for pregnancy leave than for other medical leave.  AT&T Corp. v. Redundancy Risk Increases For Older Workers

A survey of 800 jobseekers aged over 50 by The Age and Employment Network (TAEN) found a sharp increase – 47 per cent compared with 32 per cent in autumn – in the numbers seeking work because of redundancy. There was also a rise (39 per cent from a previous 30 per cent) in the numbers who said they were “desperate” for work.
